My research mainly is breast imaging in clinical work and research, with focus on breast MRI. I have been a founder and a group leader of breast imaging section in diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine, Kyoto University since 2011. The main research theme of our group and myself includes ultrafast dynamic contrast enhanced MRI, diffusion-weighed image (DWI) of the breast. Most of my recent publications, both original and review papers focus on these topics. My team members have been awarded at ISMRM annual meeting and other meeting for their excellent scientific presentations. I have been invited to give lectures on breast MRI (10 international meetings, and more than 20 domestic meetings).

My research is not limited to MRI. I have been involved in dedicated breast PET (dbPET) as a new tool to evaluate breast lesions from the metabolic point of view. Our site is one of few academic sites which uses dbPET. We recently published a paper proposing new lexicon for dbPET, aiming to standardize imaging reports and analyze the data in a systematic way. With my background of breast MRI, I aim at using PET as a part of multiparametric imaging for more accurate local staging and response prediction. Another collaboration project is Development of Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) system.

He played a pivotal role as a co-inventor of the NUH/NUS School of Computing Spine AI model, which garnered notable publications and led to a partnership with Siemens for further development and potential global distribution.

Dr. Makmur has contributed significantly to the development of various imaging AI models, including those for detecting metastatic spine instability and grading, and has collaborated with the Health Promotion Board (HPB) on a mobile app for scoliosis X-ray screening. He oversees the NUH custom radiology AI deployment sandbox, aimed at integrating imaging AI models into clinical practice. Under his leadership, the Duplicate Radiology Scans Detection dashboard was developed on the NUHS Endeavour AI platform, enhancing scanner resource utilization and patient experience by detecting duplicate scans and MRI safety issues.

As the lead of the Generative AI Project Management Office, Dr. Makmur is key in developing NUHS-grown large language models, such as RUSSELL-GPT, supporting applications across medicine, surgery, radiology, and administrative domains.

I served as section chief for 13 years and now serve as Vice Chairman of Clinical Operations for the Department of Radiology. During my tenure at MCW, I have played an integral role in building an interventional oncology practice, and we were among the first in the country to offer liver directed therapies such as radioembolization and drug eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE). Because new therapies require research, my research interests are focused on image guided therapy for cancer in the liver, lung, kidney, and musculoskeletal system. I have served as the PI for multiple multicenter national and international trials investigating the integration of systemic and liver directed therapy for both primary and metastatic liver cancer, including the DEB-IRI, SIRFLOX and EPOCH

Dietmar Tamandl, MD is a radiologist who specialized in imaging for Gastrointestinal tract cancers and oncologic radiology. He grew up in Vienna where he graduated from Medical school. After serving in the Austrian Army, he started a residency in General Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna. He completed his training in 2009 and worked as a General Surgery Attending with special focus on Surgical Oncology at the Vienna General Hospital. His research focused on liver and biliary tract cancers, and he received the Venia docendi from the Medical University of Vienna for his research in that field (Assistant Professor). In 2010/11 he completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he was trained in Advanced Surgical Oncology procedures. His special focus was colorectal and hepatobiliary/pancreatic surgery. During that fellowship, his interested in radiology was raised and continued to increase after his return to Vienna in 2011. After working at the Surgical Department for almost another year, he decided to switch subjects and started a new residency in Radiology, which he completed in 2017. In 2017, he also passed the European Board Examination for Radiology (EBiR). Similar to his previous scientific interest, his main attention is abdominal and oncological radiology, and he also published several papers in that field. He has authored and co-authored around 95 peer-reviewed articles and 6 book chapters. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences. He is reviewer for several radiological and surgical journals. In 2022, he received the Venia docendi for his radiological research in oncologic imaging. Elaine Lee

Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Diagnostic Radiology
Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong
Hong Kong

Dr Elaine Lee received her undergraduate medical training at the University of Nottingham, UK.

She completed her specialist training in radiology and fellowship in Wales, UK. She joined the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Hong Kong in 2010. Here, she developed her subspecialty interest in gynae-oncology, specifically in the application of functional and molecular imaging techniques in this field. She is the first advocate of intravoxel incoherent motion imaging (IVIM), a novel MRI technique in cervical cancer. More recently, her work has evolved around the applications of radiomics and AI in gynaecological cancer imaging. Her published works include > 100 original articles and abstracts in the field of Radiology and
Nuclear Medicine and an invited book chapter contribution in the seminal book on IVIM by Professor Le Bihan, a pioneer and world-renowned researcher on diffusion MRI technology. She is the primary investigator and recipient of competitive national grants in advancing the research in gynae-oncology imaging with established international and national collaborations. She is a Fellow of the International Cancer Imaging Society since 2022.

Apart from Research and Scholarship, Dr Lee has taken an active role in Teaching and Learning. She has led the first structured undergraduate ultrasound curriculum in Hong Kong, leading to the award of HKU Faculty of Medicine Teaching Medal in 2019. She has been instrumental in introducing new pedagogies in the undergraduate teaching with several pedagogy publications, the most recent being the application of AI in providing feedback on learning ultrasound skills among medical students.

Dr. Lin is Professor of Radiology in Department of Medical Imaging and Intervention, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan. He is the founding Director of Clinical Metabolomics Core (CMC) in Chang Gung University and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Taiwan. The CMC is a new interdisciplinary program that has a focused clinical and research interest in the integration of clinical imaging, image guided surgery, biofluid analysis, clinical oncology and molecular therapeutics in order to drive the discovery, development and deployment of novel molecular biomarkers and targeted therapeutics to guide patient care in oncology. He and his team have pioneered the field of molecular imaging, with conventional imaging modalities such as CT, PET and MRI, for discovery of image-based molecular surrogates of tumor biology and clinical imaging biomarkers for treatment response to targeted therapies. Starting from gynecology oncology, the CMC have demonstrated the robustness and scalability of this approach in a broad spectrum of cancers to improve patient care.
