Useful Information About Singapore

There are no longer any COVID-19 measures for travellers arriving in Singapore, regardless of vaccination status or traveller profile.

Please visit the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) website for the latest updates.

All travellers are required to submit their SG Arrival Card before arriving in Singapore. This does not apply to those who are transiting or transferring through Singapore without seeking immigration clearance; or Residents (Singapore citizens, Permanent Residents, Long-Term Pass holders*) entering via Land Checkpoints.

*Long-Term Pass holders include holders of Student’s Pass, Dependant’s Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass and Work Pass

You may submit your SG Arrival Card through Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) official website.

Depending on your nationality, you may need to obtain a visa before travelling to Singapore. If you are unsure whether you need a visa to visit Singapore, you can check the requirements on the ICA website.

You may also want to ensure that your passport has a minimum of 6 months validity.

The official currency in Singapore is the Singapore dollar (SGD). It is normally abbreviated with the dollar sign ‘$’ or ‘S$’. Notes come in denominations of S$2, S$5, S$10, S$50, S$100, S$1,000 and S$10,000 and coins come in 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and S$1.

It is recommended to exchange your currency at banks, airport or currency exchange booths. Credit cards are widely accepted in Singapore, but carrying some cash with you is advisable, especially for smaller transactions.

You can visit Singapore with the confidence that your personal safety is in good hands. We are widely regarded as one of the safest countries in the world, with consistently low crime rates, a transparent legal system, and a reliable police force.

There are many ways to get from door to door via taxis or private hire cars (PHCs), and both can be booked through mobile apps. Taxis can also be booked via telephone or hailed along roads or at designated taxi stands or taxi stops.

If you choose to hail a taxi, the fare you pay is charged by the meter. Taxi metered fares are calculated based on the distance travelled and surcharges may apply.

For ride-hail trips, licensed service operators can offer metered fare trips on taxis, or independently set flat fares for trips on taxis and PHCs. The flat fare to be charged for taxi and PHC bookings by the service operators must be indicated clearly within the app and provided upfront to the commuter.

For more information, please visit the Land Transport Authority website.

Singapore has a tropical climate and is hot and humid all year-round with temperatures ranging between 25°C to 33°C. It is advisable to bring lightweight and breathable clothing. You should also bring along an umbrella or raincoat to be prepared for rain which can be torrential but usually brief.

Fortunately, all hotels, offices, shopping malls and the public transport are air-conditioned, so you would hardly feel uncomfortable. In addition, you will find sheltered walkways and pathways everywhere, protecting you from the rain and sun.

The electrical current used in Singapore is 220 to 240 volts AC, 50 Hz. You can use a three-pronged type G plug, which has three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern. If your device uses a different type of plug, you may need to bring an adapter.
