Closing Ceremony / Lunch

Improving precision in HCC management through liver MRI

Day: 29 Sep 2024
Time:
10.00am – 10.30am
Location: Main Plenary @ Tower Ballroom

Synopsis:

The presentation aims to demonstrate the added value of EOB-MRI in the management of cirrhotic patients, considering the MR multiparametric approach.

With regard to the differentiation of nodules in the cirrhotic patient particularly in highlighting another factor of carcinogenesis in addition to neoangiogenesis; malignant transformation of hepatocytes with loss of function.
The acquisition of the hepatocyte phase allows the evaluation of another aspect of malignant degeneration; in many cases it anticipates neoangiogenesis, which allows for increased sensitivity.

Another aspect is the evaluation of hepatic impairment resulting from cirrhosis, which is most convincingly documented in the hepatobiliary phase images as a loss of signal intensity of the hepatocytes.

We can suggest the functional loss of the liver parenchyma as one of the main factors that influence the survival after major surgical resection.

Liver EOB examination represents the real MR multidisciplinary approach combining morphological, structural and functional analysis for both nodule and liver parenchyma.

Advancing Interventional Oncology with MR Innovations

Time: 12pm – 12.30pm
Location: Main Plenary @ Tower Ballroom

Synopsis:

Join us for a lunch symposium featuring Prof. Jurgen Futterer from MITeC, Radboud University Medical Center. Discover how groundbreaking techniques in multi-modality intraoperative imaging and MRI-guided interventions are revolutionizing patient care in interventional oncology.

Prof. Futterer will share his expertise in utilizing intraoperative MR and angiography imaging to enhance precision and safety during complex procedures. A highlight of the presentation will be a new technology that enables seamless patient transfer between imaging modalities. Learn how the unique capabilities of MRI and angiography are enabling emerging treatments such as Holmium-166 radioembolization for liver tumours.

MRI-guided in-bore intervention is gaining in popularity, despite perceptions of complexity. He will share his extensive practical experience and case studies – from percutaneous needle procedures, to tumor ablations with cryo, laser & microwave — demonstrating how they improve patient outcomes.

Prof Jurgen Futterer is an Interventional Radiologist and full professor at the Department of Imaging, MITeC, Radboud University Medical Center and at the Robotics and Mechatronics group.
